Our Success Story: A Thriving Greenhouse Feeding Hundreds in Luveve, Bulawayo.

Zimbabwe Homeless People’s Federation in Bulawayo, Luveve are transforming lives through a greenhouse project. 

Supported by Dialogue on Shelter for the Homeless Trust, the initiative was established to strengthen food security and empower women economically in one of Bulawayo’s high-density suburbs.

 Through the greenhouse project, the women grow vegetables such as tomatoes, leafy greens, and other fresh produce that are supplied to families in the community.

What began as a small effort to improve household nutrition has grown into a successful livelihood initiative that now feeds hundreds of residents while also providing income for the women involved.

The greenhouse allows the farmers to produce crops throughout the year, even during dry periods when open-field farming becomes difficult due to water shortages and extreme temperatures.

Members of the project say the support from Dialogue on Shelter has been critical in helping them access resources, training, and the infrastructure needed to sustain the initiative.

Beyond food production, the project has also strengthened solidarity among women in the community, creating a space where they can share skills, support one another, and advocate for improved living conditions.

Community leaders say the Luveve greenhouse stands as a powerful example of how women-led initiatives can build resilience, improve food security, and uplift communities in the face of economic and climate challenges.
